KID AND LAMB IN A FIELD

In this artwork AI was used to blend kid, lamb and environment into one new whole. Looking at art created with AI makes one reconsider the borders between machines, humans and other intelligent lifeforms. The once rigid boundaries seem to fade. The rise of AI coincides with the collapse of an individualistic worldview from the Enlightenment in which strict borders existed between individuals and their surroundings. Environmentally, politically, economically, culturally. Our world is in crisis. A painful metamorphosis towards a place in which man, nature and the material world exist in a more balanced whole. The role of AI seems ambivalent. AI is both an innovative catalyst as a polarizing glue. Both accelerating and slowing the process of change towards a world without historic borders between object, man and environment. Then again, an AI system just sees zeros and ones. In this field of data, boundaries already are just human myth. A new technology gripping back to ancient philosophical ideas. The adoption and true understanding of the approaching new paradigm without its current roles and hierarchies could come too late for us. For some future generation there might be a world that truly is… boundaryless.

‘Kid and lamb in a field’ is a 256-megapixel artwork realized on a metal plate measuring 100 x 100 cm. The image is created by fusing a large number of different AI-based transformations of a photographic collage into one new image.
